Apple Discontinues 4th Gen iPod Touch. Replaces with iSight free 4inch model

ipodtouch-16-gallery1-2013

Apple has killed of the old iPod Touch 4th generation in favor of a new $229 iSightless camera. The new iPod has the same processor as the current 5th generation along with the same screen size but is missing the Loop accessory and rear camera. The iPod only comes in the silver metal which seems to be the same as the current metal on the iPhone 5 and iPad Mini (White Versions). The new iPod comes with 16GB of memory and if you want the camera and the loop you will have to spend $300.

Could the reason Apple discontinued the iPod 4th generation because the device would not be able to handle iOS7? If that is the case then the iPhone 4 would have to be discontinued for the same reason the processor wouldn’t be strong enough meaning Apple would probably introduce a cheaper iPhone at WWDC along with iOS 7… Who knows.

You will be able to pick up this new iPod Touch in store starting tomorrow (May 31st) and the online store is currently accepting orders.

New iPod Touch launching in 3 weeks?

20121005-182218.jpg

The new iPod touch was announced alongside the new iPhone 5 almost a month ago. However we never got a release date for the device is still unknown. Apple gave the vague date of October. However we know a little more of when we can get our hands on Apples newest and best iPod Touch. The device could be launching in 3 weeks according to people who have pre ordered the device with shipping times being “3 weeks”.

The new iPod touch comes in many colors has a new wristband. The new iPod Touch also comes with a new A5 processor and has Siri built into it. The design is new also and the camera has been greatly improved.

New Apple Goodies Rumored for launch around September and November

This morning iMore gave us launch details for the iPhone and iPad mini launch and now iLounge gives us more information.

  1. Next iPhone will ship in Mid-September
  2. 2 new iPhone cases will be released. The first will like the current bumper case and another will have additional features which may come after launch.
  3. iPod Touch will be released alongside the new iPhone like in the past with the same screen resolution.
  4. New Nano could be bigger.
  5. 7.85 iPad Mini  with a new 19 pin dock connector and will ship in November just in time for the holidays. This follows many reports that Apple is working on Mini smart vases and Smart covers that resemble the current iPad screen size.
  6. Finally, Apple will be updating it’s new full sized iPad line with a thinner design less than a year after release. The New 4th gen iPad will be tweaked with a new back side mic and a less hot thinner design. Sharp’s rumored late IGZO displays would have made the iPad thinner and less thick and power hungry/hot.

“Apple’s current plan for the fourth-generation iPad is to release another relatively modest body tweak, which would keep the shape basically the same while introducing the new small Dock Connector, a rear-side microphone, and spec-improving/heat-reducing changes to the hardware inside. The rear-side mic might aid in noise cancellation or improve audio quality during rear video recording, and is apparently just like one found on the iPhone 5, between the camera and flash; prototype iPad minis apparently have a mic on the back in the same place.

However there has always been a rumor of a New iPad being launched with the New iPhone every year and it never happens. I would bet we wont see another full sized iPad until early 2013.

And finally iLounge says that all of this could happen at 1 event or could be multiple events.

The next iPad’s release date is a big question mark right now. As noted with the * above for the iPad mini, Apple could hold a special event just to announce the sub-8” tablet, and our source suggests that Apple might be ready to refresh the iPad at the same time.

I still would like to think the next iPad will be announced early 2013 keeping Apple’s yearly schedule but who knows maybe they will surprise us.

Apple Releases iOS 6 beta 2 to developers

Yesterday (yes I am late) Apple released iOS 6 beta 2 for members of the iOS developer portal. The update contains bug fixes, more bugs added, and some new features which I will add later. To download and install you must be part of the developer portal. You can either download the software from Apple’s Developer Portal  or if you are running iOS 6 already go to Settings>General>Software Update> Download. The Gears should spin inside the settings app but no the home screen icon stays still. So go and get it if you haven’t yet!

What I would like to see in iOS 6

WWDC is tomorrow morning for some and the afternoon for others. I am going to try and live blog the event tomorrow as best I can but before we go into all the rumors of what we are going to see I want to take some time and focus on the main thing I am excited about and that is iOS 6. A few days ago I said what I wanted to see from the jailbreak onto the actual operating system but this is going to be what I actually think is going to happen.

Revamped home screen

Let’s be honest the home screen of the iPhone is BORING! It has remained almost unchanged sense 2007. Actually I think the only thing that has changed is folders and being able to move apps around. I think it is time for widgets or themes. Not enough to kill the battery but maybe to see a new tweet, facebook, weather, news update, whatever. Or to customize your iOS device exactly how you want it. I think this is going to be a big thing for iOS 6.

Siri for iPad

I posted this a few days ago I posted a rumor from 9to5mac and I honestly think it will happen. It seems like a right move as the new iPad has dictation and just needs the functionality. One of the reasons I don’t think they released this with the new iPad is because it is still in beta for the iPhone and I don’t think they had how it would look done yet. I do think we will see this tomorrow.

Maps with find my friends built in

Apple’s own 3D maps are going to be in the native maps application instead of google’s which is almost confirmed now, however what I want to see is the option for find my friends to be built right into the application so maybe more people would start using it.

Better Widgets

I think one thing iOS needs is widgets. I said in the revamped home screen something to tweet or post to facebook and see what is happening around you. We have 2 widgets now Stocks and Maps and they are BORING. Come on Apple give us some widgets!

Missing Apps For iPad

When the iPad was released I had noticed there were some apps missing. Today the weather, stocks, and clock app are still missing from the iPad. All of these could be added with the addition of widgets in iOS or there could be an App that could combine them all into one. Have a 3-4 grid (add something) and have weather in a corner, stocks in a corner, etc.

Quick Reply

I said this in my jailbreak post that the only reason I keep going back to the altered world of iPhones is because I hate getting pulled out of my apps to answer texts. We have the best Mobile OS of any phone or tablet out there it is time to let us reply from in apps.

Better multitasking

I don’t like the way iOS handles multitasking. Well I don’t like the grid. I would like to see a view where you can see a little preview of what is going on in every app running. Sort of like webOS. Make it happen.

Apple to release iOS 6 Beta Build 10A5316K Tomorrow

A post from the staff of Chinese forum weiPhone.com claims to share a host of official download links to Apple’s new iOS 6 software that is going to be announced tomorrow.

Accuracy of this is not really known. Whenever you click a link you will get to the developer “Your Session has expired” like this.

When iOS 5 was close to being announced there was a similar list of links which I don’t have.

If the links are accurate then the 1st generation iPad and 3rd Generation iPod touch are dropped, however the iPhone 3Gs is still supported which to me makes no sense whatsoever as the iPhone 3Gs has worse specs than both of those devices. Here is the fill list of links:

Third-generation iPad
– Consumer: Wi-FiWi-Fi + Cellular (GSM)WiFi + Cellular (CDMA)
– Enterprise: Wi-FiWiFi + Cellular (GSM)WiFi + Cellular (CDMA)

iPad 2

Other iOS

Safari 6
– Consumer: – Safari 6 Developer Preview for LionUninstaller

There is no way to tell if these links are accurate until tomorrow morning. I expect there would also be a new build of OSX Mountain Lion or even the full public release date to be t0morrow. We will see. I will have some new posts coming for iOS and more of the event expectations later.

How to follow the Super Bowl with your iPhone,iPad,and Mac

Superbowl Sunday is great. Unless you aren’t anywhere near a TV. That changes today. I am going to tell you how to watch the Super Bowl live using either your iPhone, your iPad, or even your mac!

NFL Live for Verizon iPhone

If you have a Verizon iPhone you are lucky. You van get the NFL Live app for your iPhone and watch the game live. The App is universal but I don’t know if you can stream it right to your iPad so you might not want to rely on this for your iPad.

[App Store Link]

NFL.COM

This is probably a good free version to use! All you have to do is launch safari and go to the site which can be found here. Then just watch the game! This can be done from your Mac,iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad!

[WebSite Link]

Super Bowl Commemorative App For The iPad

This one isn’t free but it gets the job done and I am guessing very well too. The app will bring you how the Patriots and The Giants made it to the super bowl, stadium shots, interviews and of course the live game. If you wanna snag this app go head!

What to do with that new iPhone/iPod you just got

So you got a new iPhone or iPod for the holidays! Great! By now you should have had time to play around with it and you want to know what you should do next! Well here is what you should do in terms of apps, music, photos and more. So let’s get started.

Apps

Here are some of the Apps you should get for your iPhone or iPod Touch.

1. Facebook –

The king of the social networks. As horrible as this app is to some people I don’t find it that bad. Sometimes it will annoy me though. It is better than using the mobile site as you can’t upload all your holiday photos using the web page. [iTunes Link]

2. Twitter –

Twitter is built into iOS 5. You can tweet out website links and photos from inside our native safari or photos app on the device. To do all of this though you need to get the official twitter app. It is a little hurtful on the eyes but the app itself is good and hey it’s free! [iTunes Link]

3. Tiny Wings –

This is one of my favorite iOS games of all times. Tiny wings. You are a bird who has always dreamed of flying. Unfortunately you have tiny wings. Good thing is the world is full of hills. You try and make it through islands by getting air of the hills. It is extremely addicting and I love it and I hope you will to. [$1 – iTunes Link]

Music

One of the great thing about having an iPhone and an iPod is you have music wherever you go. If you don’t have any though then well you are going to be missing out. One of the things every iPhone and iPod can do is download music,tv,and movies straight from the iTunes store along with previous purchases of TV and music. All you need to do is launch the iTunes store, go into the purchases, music, then hit the download all. This will take a while and unless you have iTunes match your mp3’s will NOT download. So to save time you might just want to plug your iPhone/iPod into iTunes and then have all your music.

Photos

The iPhone and the iPod are great way’s to show off your photos. All you need to do is hit the Photo tab when you connect your iDevice to iTunes and check the “Sync Photo’s” checkbox and you are done! Congrats!

iCloud

iCloud iOS 5’s biggest possibly best feature. It is amazing. It alows you to keep Photo’s, Calanders, Contacts, and more synced accross all your devices. Mac or PC. All you need to do is have an Apple ID. Once you do then you can navigate to Settings>iCloud. If you are not signed in go ahead and then select the services you want! Photo Stream stores 30 days or 1,000 new photos. You can clear ALL of them from iCloud.com and soon individually with iOS 5.1.

Play Around!

There are many great amazing things that the iPhone and the iPod touch have to offer and this is just a quick little guide to get you started. I will be posting some fun tips and tricks for all you new iPhone users and some good ones for older iPhone users. If you have a tip or a trick feel free to comment or send me a message on twitter (@matthewjagiela). Enjoy your night and I hope all of you had a wonderful day.
