uSurf 6 Now Available

An update a year in the making: uSurf 6 is now available. uSurf 5 got to be so hard to maintain and fix that I had to rewrite it from scratch but by doing that there are a lot of improvements. The official change-log:

6.0 The Big One:
– A total rewrite: The app has been completely rewritten to be better optimized!
– WebKit: With WebKit features such as swipe navigation have been implemented
– ProgressBar: See how far the page is loaded with a new progress bar on the top of the webview.
– iPhone X Support: uSurf now supports iPhone X Style Devices
– iPad Pro Support: uSurf now supports iPad Pro (3rd Generation Devices)
– iPad: No more toolbar! Everything is now in the navigation bar!
– iPad: Portrait Split Screen!
– There are new icons all throughout the app!
– Long pressing the add button will allow you to add a bookmark, just pressing it will add a tab…
– Option to clear all history!
– Searching: You can now search through your history, tabs, and bookmarks!
– Better version information: A lot less mess ups when it comes to consistency with information
– Legacy: uSurf still works with legacy devices (going as far back as iOS 9)
– Ad Banners: To try and make a little bit of cash on the side I implemented a single ad banner on the bottom of the settings page. That’s it.

uSurf 6 switches from using UIWebView to WebKit. This brings faster browsing and streamlined navigation. It also allows for a progress bar to determine how much of the page is left to load.

There is also a lot of efficiency upgrades in terms of memory and processing power which is good on devices running legacy versions of iOS.

The final thing… Ads. uSurf has been free for a number of years along with other applications of the uApps Suite. Development of these apps take a lot of time and are not free so I am trying to get a mere couple of cents off of people using them. Therefor, I added an ad banner in the info section of uSurf… That’s all there is going to be for now.

For those of you waiting for this update I appreciate your patience while I got this update ready (took over a year). The redone code structure makes it easier to push updates both feature wise and functionality wise.

Happy Holidays

uApps Holiday 18

As it starts to become Christmas in my part of the world I would like to take a minute to say thank you to everyone who has used something I have developed over 2018.

My hope is that even though there are some bugs along the way that the applications I make and post bring some joy or make your life a little bit easier in some fashion so I would like to say thank you.

As of right now all apps and updates for 2018 are finished! There will not be a new update for any uApps application until early 2019 with big things left to come…

With that said a big piece of the uApps puzzle was absent this year: uSurf. uSurf got to be developmentally challenging to make progress moving forward so I decided I was going to completely re-design and recode the entire thing using swift and webkit. While there are still a lot of things to be developed for uSurf 6 because it is the holidays here is a sneak peak of the new UI you will see when launching uSurf 6:

So exciting things are coming in terms of uSurf, uTime, and something else completely new! However, they take time and I am a busy college student about to graduate so a lot of these projects are done in free time so again thank you for bearing with me.

Again thank you and I hope everyone has a terrific holiday and a happy new year!

Happy Holidays From uApps

It’s the holiday season and as traditon holds it I update all uApps applications to have snow falling throughout the cold weather months. The tradition remains this year with EVERY uApps application getting a holiday update. Enjoy the holidays everyone.

However, uTime gets a little more than just snow falling so I want to highlight them both specifically.

uTime 2.2 macOS:

-Added a holiday icon!
-Added snow falling throughout the App!
-Added support for the MacBook Pro Touch Bar!
-You can now easily add and delete timers with the Touch Bar!
– Touch Bar changes depending on what you are doing within the app.
-Added the ability to sort timers by date!
-When a timer is deleted a window will appear briefly to alert you of deletion.
-If extra loading time is needed on startup the UI will reflect this

and of course uTime 2.2 for iOS:

– Added choice to sort by date
– UI Changes for iPad
– Fixed error on iPad where there was no indication of the countdown date

So macOS gets a little more love but getting the timers to sort by date proved more difficult than I originally thought. Either way these are going to be the last updates of the year so I hope you all enjoy them and the holiday!

Happy Holiday,

~Matthew Jagiela (uApps Head)~

Outages

uApps Icon

If you have tried to load the info tabs on our iOS Apps today (settings for uSurf) you will notice that the load time for the view is very long AND doesn’t show any of our information tickers. This is due to the numerous outages along the web from DDOS attacks on servers today.

The server used for these tickers have been hit and are down so our applications are trying to load this data but cannot reach the server. Eventually the view will load if given time.

All should be back up and working sometime soon I hope but this is not something I personally control but thought I should give an explanation for why this occours.

Thank you

-UI Fixes (other than font changes)

That’s all for uSurf in this update. Check back here for more information on uSurf!

Introducing uTime!

uTime App Icon

After releasing our newest app uSurf a little over a year ago I thought it was time to bring out something new. I am happy to announce that today (also the iPhone’s 9th birthday!) our brand new app uTime is officialy on the App Store waiting for download!

uTime allows you to have a multitude of count down timers that will tell you the exact time that is left towards a specific date in the future. uTime also uses iCloud to sync so all the dates on your iPhone will sync with your iPad as well (yes it is universal)!

uTime’s official App Store description:

Welcome to uTime!
uTime is a brand new App that will allow you to see how much time there is left until an event in the future.
uTime syncs between devices so the timers on your iPhone are the same as they are on your iPad!
Support can be found by hitting the support button in the information section. It is the best way to keep up to get support with either problems or upcoming features.
To add another timer hit timers and then the plus button OR hit the add timer button on the main screen. The current time and date will be added to the list and then you can change it from the home-screen!

uTime will be updated on a regular basis along with uSurf. The information page can be found here and the support page here. Of course there is also a contact sheet for both this post, information page, and support page with any questions or bug reports.

Information about updates can always be found on this homepage along with my twitter (@matthewjagiela)  and of course both information and support pages.

uSurf 5.1 Now Available!

uSurf 4 iTunes

Happy WWDC 2016 all! Even though I was not liveblogging the event I was paying close attention to it! To celebrate all of todays news a new version of uSurf is being pushed right now! Here’s what’s new in Version 5.1:

uSurf 5.1 Changes:

  • Added open in Safari to iPhone Share Sheet.
  • Replaced Home with Single Square for Settings View.
  • URL Field Will Clear Text When You Tap It!
  • Split Tabs into iPhone and iPad Sections.
  • Made it so share sheet follows theming rules.
  • Fixed issue when switching to light theme the tables had the previous themes color…
  • Fixed Issue Where Adding A Tab in Split Screen didn’t add it to iCloud…
  • Fixed issue where adding a bookmark in split screen did nothing…

There are going to be a lot of additions coming this summer and with iOS 10 more towards September! I’m going to go and start diving into the new SDK’s and I will see everyone in the next update! (If the update is not showing right away it is probably because Apple’s servers are jammed right now… Should show up sometime soon!)
