Find My Friends Doesn’t Always Use Your Location

A lot of buzz has been going around Find my Friends the last couple of weeks and I have gotten to use the service a lot and I am going to clear up some questions you might have about it! So let’s get started.

Does it always use my location?

NO! You may think this because how else would friends find you. No it doesn’t you see what happens when a friend launches the App it requests all the locations of their friends. Then they can choose to refresh to find it again or not. It only does it for a one time thing it doesn’t always monitor where you are your friends have to request it.

how do i disable people from finding me?

You of course can always make it so people will not see where you are and it seems people forget this exists that it always is on! All you have to do is go into the app and hit the me tab on the bottom. Than you can turn on the switch to hide from your followers meaning they won’t be able to see your location!

Those are most of the things I have been seeing around the internet and people asking me about. If you have a question you would like me to answer on the site or even add to here then comment on this post, send me a message on twitter @matthewjagiela, or even on Facebook!

Getting iOS 5 tomorrow? You’ll need this!

If you are one of the people who want iOS 5 tomorrow you will need iTunes 10.5 that Apple has given to the public today! iTunes 10.5 allows you to sync wirelessly with any iOS 5 device connected to the same network along with some other goodies but most importantly you NEED it to update to iOS 5. You can open software update on your mac to get iTunes by hitting the Apple in the top left and software update and for everyone else you can go to http://www.apple.com/itunes/download My iOS 5 review will be updated with cards and Find my Friends Tomorrow!

Mac OS X and iTunes might get iCloud Tuesday

Well here is something that might make mac users really happy. It seems that Apple is planning on releasing iTunes with iCloud and Mac OS X 10.7.2 with iCloud support on Tuesday a day ahead of the iOS 5 with iCloud support launch. This would make sense as developers need the beta of iTunes with iCloud to install iOS 5 on their devices so why wouldn’t Apple make it the same way with a public release of iTunes to install the public release of iOS 5. I was expecting to see Mac 10.7.2 on Wednesday perhaps Apple doesn’t want their server’s to overloaded.

Airport utility is coming to an iPhone and iPad soon

Well Apple is really making it so you do not need a computer to do really anything. Not even to set up and manage your wifi connection anymore. That’s right that little message is in the GM seed of iOS 5. All you need to do if you have the GM installed is go to settings>wifi>the arrow next to your network and then at the bottom hit manage network and then you will see the message. If you say ok then it will try to take you to the App but will fail saying the content is not available. So for everyone who justs wants an iPad or does everything from your iPhone you don’t need a computer for really anything now. Seems cool! Ill post a link whenever we get the app.

iOS 5 to be launched October 15th

20111004-231015.jpg

Today we got the date for the final release date for the iOS 5 public release and iCloud launch which both is October 5th. Now along with iOS 5 and iCloud we get some extras. Apple demoed 2 new apps coming to the app store for iOS 5. These apps are cards and pages and I will tell you about them both.
Cards
Cards is basically an app that allows you to make custom real not digital greeting cards. Hallmark just got burned. You can make them on an iOS device running iOS 5 and send them from the device! Remember this is for real cards it costs about $3 and you will get a notification when the card has shipped! The app itself is free. Sounds good for some people who like the old fashioned way of saying hello!
Find my friends
This is really cool and also will be a free download from the App store October 12th. It will allow you to see all the friends you have added and you can see your location along its your friends location on the map! You can see how that would be useful in the post below. You can also have it so you stop sharing your location at the end of the day which would be great as well. So wha do you think of the new apps for iOS and iOS 5? Also my review will be updated when I download the apps and try them out!

Find my Friends will be Great!

One of the things Apple had on stage for iOS 5 today is find my friends an app that will allow you to add and see friends on a map and some people have mixed feelings about this. People saying oh what a great way to stalk people and how will this be useful. Well I will explain it to you in a way that adults can’t. Being a teenage tech reviewer has it’s advantages.

Friends and Family

If you are like me a member of your family could always being away. Like my father he always travels for his job which is exciting but I can never keep track where he is. He has an iPad 2 3G and I am guessing he has an international data plan… If not he will soon. It would be a great time to see if I am in school and where he is in the world. Also for friends. We never ever know where the other one is. If we are actually on our way or what. It would help… Greatly. Just some things to think about it.

“Lets Talk iPhone” Rumor Roundup

I think it is safe to say there will be no more rumors between now and tomorrow so I am going to do a little Apple “Lets talk iPhone” Rumor round up what we will see at the event all the way to the release date all these rumors from the past month combined into 1 awesome post.

iPhone 5

This seems like a near dream to me now. The fact of the matter yes it could come and I wish it will and I am sure a ton of you fanboys are hoping that it does too. The fact of the matter is yes I do think it will come but there is no proof from Apple… Yet anyways. We have seen leaked cases and cases even showing up in inventories along with the device itself! Launch Date is rumored to be October 14th!

iphone 4s

This is the iPhone that is expected to be announced tomorrow. It is supposed to just be a hardware bump to the iPhone 4 with a CDMA iPhone 4 antenna and possibly a metal back? Never know. But this iPhone is the more likely to show up tomorrow. There is evidence of this in Apple’s inventory system and even in iTunes! Launch date is rumored to be October 14th!

iOS 5

Yes for everyone not picking up the newest iPhone you will be happy to hear that the betas have stopped for iOS 5 we haven’t seen a new one for 4 weeks now I think. The GM will be launched to developers tomorrow I am sure and everyone should get it either by Friday or next Tuesday.

Voice Assistant

This is in iOS 5 no doubt. We have proof of it! No one except the insides at Apple and carriers have been able to use it though tomorrow is the day we might see the voice control come to the world! The co-founder of Siri even said Assistant will change the way we interact. Need any more proof? The question is will Apple surprise us and make this an iPhone 4s/5 only feature.

iCloud

Yes iCloud. A great feature of iOS will be launching to the world sometime this week whenever iOS 5 does. iCloud is amazing and I can’t wait for all of you to try it.

iPods anyone? we can dream right?

This is very very far stretched which is why I made it the last one on our list. There has been no rumors for the iPod touch 5 other than it will have a white front… No rumors of design changes or an announcement date. Some would like to think it is tomorrow but it is a “Lets Talk iPhone” event. As Apple usually announces iPods around this time the order of thing have been messed with a lot this year so I don’t think we will see any iPods tomorrow but hey we can dream and hope for them like the iPhone 5 right?

about tomorrow…

Yes this is going to kill me. The event is during school for me and won’t have a live stream up on Apple’s site but below here is a list of websites that are covering the event that you should check out. This is going to be my first iPhone announcement I wont be able to watch the live feeds for so I am not happy about this and I am not happy saying you should go to another site to see whats new… Don’t worry everything will be covered in my post roundup of the day and yes it will be a giant one! Remember my iOS 5 review is featured and will be on top of the site for some time so make sure to scroll down to see the newest post! Thanks!
