The iPhone 4s untethered jailbreak has been achieved

The iPhone 4s has never had an untethered jailbreak. In fact there hasn’t really been any jailbreak for the iPhone 4s since we have first seen it about 2 months ago. Now there is going to be not only an iPhone 4s jailbreak but it will also be untethered. Even though they have cracked the problem for the A5 we won’t likely see this anytime soon so don’t get your hopes up. Most likely after Christmas. pod2G has cracked it and here is the official statement:

OK, figured it out, the A5 cache is not a problem anymore. I sorted it out by doing the untether in a single thread and by flushing all the dcache then all the icache in a row at a strategical point of the process. It took me like a hundred of tests to find the key. Hard for the nerves. For the tech guys, here is a link explaining issues related to self modifying code ( or code patching ) on the ARM platform : http://blogs.arm.com/software-enablement/141-caches-and-self-modifying-code/

Another news : I discussed with @saurik today about the launchd boot process, and he’s found one missing piece of the puzzle I needed to have a perfectly stable jailbreak. He’s definitly one of the best iOS gurus out there. Thank you saurik!

Good work guys. I can’t wait to see the tool for this.

WSJ: Apple discussing voice-powered TV, enhanced Airplay, iCloud DVR

iTV Mockup

The Wall Street Joutnal has published a report detailing what they know on Apple’s supposed Television set. The report says Apple has met with media companies in recent weeks and here is what Apple is supposedly working on for the TV set:

  • The Apple television set is said to be very reliant on the cloud, something we’ve heard before, in order to download (and likely stream) television shows, movies, and other content. There does not seem to be a large differentiating factor here from the $99 Apple TV set-top-box, but this content component is just the surface of the TV set.
  • Apple is looking at new forms of interaction with not only TV sets but with mobile devices like iPhones and iPads. These new ways of interacting with technology include voice and movements. The voice aspect (Siri) is something we’ve heard in reports before and movement is something that Apple has been prototyping for a while now. The Siri component would be used to change channels and search for content.
  • Apple is also said to be working on an enhanced version of AirPlay that allows a user to start watching video content on a television, for example, and pickup the video on their mobile device. This would be  the opposite of the current AirPlay solution where someone starts watching content on their iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, and continues via streaming to their Apple TV box. The WSJ says this may simply be an Apple TV box feature, not exclusive to the set.
  • The report also says late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs has been an advocate for controlling the Apple TV box with iOS devices (via the App Store Remote application), so we’ll likely see the Apple TV set being controlled with iPhones, iPads, and iPod touches versus a standalone remote control.
  • Obviously, this Apple TV set would eliminate the need for the Apple TV set-top-box, and would allow users to stream content directly from the iOS device to the Apple TV set. Companies like Time Warner Cable have not been a fan of Apple’s current go through the set-top-box for streaming solution, according to the report.
  • Finally, the report says Apple is working on an iCloud-based DVR service, purportedly for this Apple television set.

The WSJ has been a very good source in the past so this is probably accurate. We won’t know for sure until we see the TV if we ever do. It is rumored to launch around 2013.

Apple is getting in the Holiday Spirit with a New iPhone Ad

Apple seems to be getting into the holiday spirit by releasing a new iPhone TV Ad. The Ad features Santa clause using his 4s and Siri to help him out through his big night. Check it out!

Also if you go to google on your computer and type in “let it snow” without “” then you get a surprise. Plus I will be decorating the site in the next few days for the holidays along with some good holiday apps!

New iPhone 5 concept

A new iPhone 5 or next generation iPhone concept has arrived and to be honest I don’t love it but at the same time I don’t hate it. We can see the screen is a little larger from the current 3.5″ to a 4.3″ screen. I do like the upgraded screen and the fact the back is no longer glass and seems to be aluminum. I however don’t like the home button that seems to be an enlarged home button. Also the form doesn’t seem the best and the camera looks a little small. This is the design video made by ADR studios.

For hardware there is of course the upgraded screen, new home button which could be capacitive, new A6 chip that will most likely dual core but with upgraded speed. You can read all of our posts about the iPhone 5 by clicking here. More images below

iPhone 5 and iPad 3 to have LTE [Rumor]

20111130-150843.jpg

Sense the iPhone 4 has come out the next question for the world was when would the iPhone gain LTE 4G support. Many thought that the iPhone 5 that was going to be the first LTE device but then the iPhone 4S came around and that dream was squashed. You could say though that the iPhone 4S is “4G” on AT&T HSPA+ network but that’s not true 4G. Now the rumor is that the iPad 3 is going to be the first iOS 4G LTE device.

Apple CEO Tim Cook is said to have met with NTT DoCoMo president Kiyoyuki Tsujimura and VP Takashi Yamada earlier this month to work out the details of the arrangement, and the companies have reportedly reached agreeable terms.

the quote above is meant for the 4G release of an iPad or iPhone. However this doesn’t say anything about the release dates at all. However if the iPad 3 is going to be the first 4G iOS device we see than will we see at a usual time this year in January? Or will we have to wait till later for apple to make sure the 4G works. Or could we see what they did with the first iPad release the wifi only and keep making and testing the cellular one? We will find out soon!

Microsoft office coming to the iPad and OS X Lion [Rumor]

The full Microsoft Office may be coming to your iPad! This would be of course to compete with Apple’s Pages, Numbers, and Keynote applications for business. It seems that Microsoft wants in some of this business. As it is rumored Microsoft is going to start offering its office suite for the iPad.

According to sources, the tech giant is actively working on adapting its popular software suite for Apple’s tablet. With the iPad making up over 80 percent of the tablet market and millions of people worldwide using Office, that could mean big bucks for the tech giant based in Redmond, Wash.

In addition to an iPad-ready version, a new edition of Office is expected for OS X Lion sometime next year. The current version of the desktop package, Office 2011, officially supports iOS versions up to Snow Leopard. A Lion version, likely available via the Mac App Store, is widely expected. Windows, too, is due for an update, with Office 2012 currently in beta form.

So in addition to the iPad getting some office love all of os running OS X lion might be getting office 2012 with Lion in the Mac App Store. All of the apps for both the iPad and the Mac should be less than Apple’s iWork app pricing.

Hitachi and Sony shipping 4inch displays to Apple for next iPhone [Rumor]

Picture From MacRumors

Here we go again with the 4 inch display iPhone rumors for the next generation of the iPhone. Macotara states:

According to Asian source, Hitachi Displays, Ltd. and Sony Mobile Display Corporation started to ship 4-inch LCD for new iOS device and LCD for iPad 3. These 2 companies will be merged their business with Toshiba Mobile Display Co., Ltd., as “Japan Display” in 2012 spring.

However the 4 inch display might not be such a bad idea for the next iPhone. Apple would be able to keep the same 940×640 resolution they do now to keep developers happy and to avoid fragmentation. However some people would probably say that the display would not be retina which is not true. However there is a problem with apps that are old and do not support the retina resolution of the current iPhone 4(s). Would we see boxes around the display like with the iPad using iPhone apps or would some magic happen and the phone would just make the pixels larger to fit the screen?

iPhone 4S Unlock is in the works!

If you have an iPhone 4S and you need to unlock then you may be able to soon! According to musclenerd (@musclenerd -twitter) a member of the iPhone Dev-Team they have a unlock in the works! The iPhone 4S is the only iPhone that can’t currently be unlocked with ultrasnow or really anything for that matter. Here is the statement that musclenerd made

Crazy Thanksgiving weekeend! Very Promising 4S unlock is in the works (Not the i4, just the 4S… that’s the crazy part)

Above is the image that was posted along with the tweet. However let us not forget we need a jailbreak for the 4S before we can actually unlock the phone itself. The jailbreak should be coming soon along with the unlock.
