Apple Holding Media Event October 5th

Well here we go with the iPhone 5! A report today said that Apple will be holding a media event October 5th too announce new hardware. This news comes from PocketGamer a website dedicated to mobile video games. From PocketGamer:

In the sort of hush-hush operation whereby we’d have to kill you etc etc, it seems that Apple is gearing up for a slightly earlier than previously expected iPhone 5 launch.
Our inside source says there will be a press conference announcing the new hardware on October 5th, with retail release occurring a week later.

The symbolism works well too: iPhone 5, iOS 5, October 5.

If you have been following the iPhone 5 rumors you know this is one of the dates that was expected to be the Keynote for launching iOS 5, The new iPod line, and of course the new iPhone 5. The rumor for the actual day where you can get your hands on one of these devices is October 5th. So now we know when to expect to see all the hardware changes to the next iPhone.

iMessage to be supported in MAC OS X Lions iChat?

Well here is something that might be unexpected to some but not me. Mac Rumors has found some hidden iChat code showing that iMessage a service that allows iPods, iPhones, and iPads to communicate over the web to the messages app will be coming to the Mac as well in the form of iChat.

@interface IMMessage : NSObject
{
IMHandle *_sender;
IMHandle *_subject;
NSAttributedString *_text;
NSString *_plainBody;
NSDate *_time;
NSDate *_timeDelivered;
NSDate *_timeRead;

The code you see above is the framework in iChat. The code shows the “time delivered” and “time read” which is in the current iMessage. Honestly I think this would be a great idea as you can have all your messages well now everywhere granted it isn’t an SMS and is an iMessage and well everyone I know uses an iPod, iPhone, iPad, or a Mac or all of those so this would be a great idea and I can’t wait to see it become a reality. It may even come with iOS 5 public release which is rumored to be October 10th. iMessage is still in developer preview and has not been released to the public but it does work very well for me.

iOS 5 beta 8 this Friday? GM seed September 23rd? Carrier approval by October 5th?

20110913-105836.jpg

BGR reports that a source has told them that this Friday won’t bring us GM seed of iOS 5 like we originally thought but in Friday we will have iOS 5 beta 8. Now the only time there has been 8 betas for iOS software was with iOS 2 or iPhone os 2 as it was called back then. Now I think iOS 5 beta 7 is stable and they should skip beta 8 and just fork over the GM seed but that could be just me. Here is the statement from BGR.

After beta 8, Apple will introduce a Gold Master build on or around September 23rd as has been rumored. We believe that build is what will be loaded onto the already-assembled iPhone 5 hardware currently waiting for final software in China.

Now this means the rest of the world could see iOS 5 on October 5th. Also could we see the iPhone 5 and iPod Touch 5 September 23rd? Apple usually gives the GM seed around the announcement of a new iPhone so it would make sense. Or could we have to wait till October 5th to see the newest and greatest Apple has to offer? Only time will tell.

Developers Can you Subscribe to iTunes Match?

Apple today has extended the number of Developers to subscribe to iTunes match the service which allows people to store imported MP3’s on iCloud and push them to all your devices. Now currently you have to be a developer to take part of this service and you have to currently be an Apple developer with iTunes 10.5 beta 8. Just hit the iTunes match and there will be a subscribe button. Yes you do have to pay the $25 a year when you subscribe and this is a United States only service. Let me know how it is in the comments or on twitter (@matthewjagiela)!

Apple tells Developers to get ready for iCloud backup and Restore

Well it seems we might see iOS 5 coming in a matter of weeks and the GM maybe even next week. It seems that Apple has told developers to get ready for backup and restore for iCloud.

iCloud introduces a smarter way for users to back up their info. It’s important to read the new iCloud Data Storage Guidelines to ensure that your app works best with iCloud Backup and Restore, available on iOS 5.

The statement above was posted on the developer portal for new news. So this seems like Apple is giving developers information that iCloud and iOS 5 is very very close to being done and that Developers should make sure that their apps work the best they can with iOS 5 and iCloud.

Apple Stores beginning iCloud iOS 5 Training?

9to5mac has just posted an interesting story saying that Apple Retail stores are beginning iCloud and iOS 5 training. This somewhat shows or points to a close release of iOS 5 and new iPhone hardware as Apple starts the next major iOS training near the actual iPhone hardware launch meaning if this is true we could see the new iPhone hardware or pre-orders somewhat earlier than the early mid October bit. 9to5mac has this story in detail go check it out.

HTML Source Reveals Apple’s “Find My Friends”

20110903-024014.jpg

Remember early in the day when the iOS 4.3 SDK came out there was all of these finding that suggested that Apple was planning an iOS 5 friend service similar to google latitude? Well HTML finding somewhat confirm this. Yes today in HTML code we have found Apple’s service which will probably be called “Find My Friends” the service will let you see your friends on the map along with an additional detail of pushing photos to your friends. Yes like photo stream it is rumored that your photos stream will show up on your profile so when you take a photo then it will be on your profile for all your friends to see. I am guessing that you will need to enable that service along with “Find My Friends”. Also it seems this won’t be just for photos as well it may also be for video. Photo Stream is no doubt right now just for photos but again HTML findings show that find my friends might also be sharing photos and video over photo stream or whatever they decide to call it. It seems very interesting and I would like to see it happen and try it out. Hopefully it does become reality I mean they have patents for it.

Apple Releases iOS 5 beta 7 to Developers

Today Apple has released iOS 5 beta 7 to developers and this should be very close to the GM Seed. Either way you can download the update through the developer portal or you can do it as an OTA Update by going to settings>general>software update> download. Remember to install you need to have a battery over 50% or be in a power supply or the update won’t install so get downloading.

iPhone 5 image leaked in photo-stream?

Well it seems that Apple might have leaked the iPhone 5. In Apples final version of photo-stream they have an image of an iPhone doesn’t look like a past iPhone. It has a larger screen. Here is an enhanced version of the image above.

It shows what could be a gesture area. This seems to be what all the rumors of what the iPhone 5 is going to look like. We will see sometime this month. Also a little side note I start school tomorrow so there will be a rumor roundup every day at 3-4 depending how much news happens during the day.
