Everything you need to know about the new iPhone 5!

;

;

The day has finally come with the new iPhone being announced. So I thought I would run down the most important aspects that make this phone the best iPhone yet.

Pre Orders and Launch

The new iPhone will not be available for pre order today (Sad Face) but they will be available for Pre Order on September 14th in the US and available in store 8AM. This will also be the date the Pre Orders arrive. There is no word on what time the Pre Orders will start but if history repeats itself (Which it is with Friday being the day!) then Pre orders will start at 3:45 PM Eastern or 12:45 Pacific.

The New Charger

The new charger for me is actually one of the best things. For so long I have wished it was smaller. However I hard a little nerd freakout moment when they said that the connector works both ways. All of you know this feeling: When you are in the dark ready to charge your iPhone and then you can’t figure out which way the connector goes. No more! There of course will be an adaptor that looks ridiculous but can already bought on the online store!

The New Screen

Of course we have known about this for a while but today it is official: The new iPhone for the first time ever will have a bigger screen then the ones in the past. if it seems pointless now that’s because it sort of is. However I have high hopes the next iOS(7) will take us away with the new screen!

A6

The new iPhone sports a brand new never before A6 processor. This chip will make your iPhone fly. I don’t know all the details but I am told that it is 2x faster than the iPad. Hopefully this is true

LTE

This one was not really a surprise for me because the iPad had it. However now the iPhone is able to connect to LTE on Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint. Sorry T-Mobile USA you will not have the iPhone unless you get one unlocked.

Earpods

;

The new headphones that will come with the iPhone 5 are designed specifically for your ear without suction. I have hope they will be decent.

Design

Finally we are at the design. They say they have an entire new design for the phone but that’s not true. It has the same form factor as the 4 did but the screen and sides and back are all different. The back will be Slate and Black for the Black Model and Silver and White for the white model. The sides will be aluminum and will match the color of the aluminum on the back.

Remember that the phone has the same price point and same storage models.

FlashBack Friday Part 2: Apple’s Past iPhone Event Invitations

With the iPhone Event invitations out for Wednesday I thought it would be cool to look at the past iPhone and iOS invitations.

WWDC 2007: The Original iPhone

The Original iPhone will always reign to me as the best iPhone. Not as far as specs go but with design. I feel the best design for the iPhone was the aluminum brushed with plastic we all saw at WWDC in 2007.I got one last year of eBay and yes I do still use it. As far as updates go the iPhone was killed at 3.1.3 but has not been forgotten.

WWDC 2008: iPhone 3G and the App Store

If you were like me the original iPhone was to expensive when it first launched at 500 dollars for the low model. Therfor you were waiting for the next generation to come quickly and hopefully with a lower price tag. When Steve Jobs told us all about the iPhone 3G and the App Store I went crazy! The iPhone 3G was my first iPhone and I still have one with me. The iPhone 3G was killed at iOS 4.2.

iPhone OS 3.0 Event

The iPhone OS 3.0 event brought the world iPhone OS 3.0. To me the event was not as impressive as I would have liked but was still okay. Right around then I started to get interested in Apple.

WWDC 2009: The iPhone 3Gs

At WWDC 2009 the world was given the iPhone 3Gs that is still around with us for probably only a few weeks now. The 3Gs brought a faster processor and video recording to the iPhone.

WWDC 2010: iPhone 4 iOS 4

WWDC brought us the iPhone 4 which was famously bought by Gizmodo and leaked on the internet before the initial launch. The form is still being used in iPhone’s today and will be brought probably to the next iPhone as well with some added features. iOS 4 brought folders and multitasking to the world of iOS.

Lets Talk iPhone: iPhone 4s

The famous let’s talk iPhone event was the last iPhone event before Steve Job’s passed away. The event was supposed to be home to the iPhone 5 but we got the 4s instead with Siri.

September 12: iOS 6 and iPhone 5

Apple’s September event still remains somewhat of a mystery. However we can be sure that the iPhone 5 and iOS 6 will be launched. to follow the iPhone 5 rumors click here. Remember we will have live coverage on twitter (@matthewjagiela) and here on the site as well.

New iPhone and iPad Mini Parts Show Smaller Dock Connector and Repositioned Headphone Jack

We have seen photos of parts that have been said to have a new dock connector and a repositioned headphone jack to have all devices similar in ports.

New leaked parts for what is said to be the new iPad mini and the new iPhone have been released. High res shots of the dock connector reveals a smaller 8 pin dock that is rumored for all the upcoming iOS devices.

A new dock connector seems to worry a lot of people with accessories for the current dock connector. Hopefully for all of you Apple will release an adaptor like they did with Magsafe to Magsafe 2.

iOS 6 is scalable to 640×1136 display!

Something that many iPhone users have always wanted was a larger screen. Not something as huge as a Samsung Galaxy Note but something a little bigger. Apple seems to have almost confirmed we will see a new larger screen with the next iPhone.

9to5mac was able to do some developer magic and make the iOS simulator work in the rumored 640×1136 resolution on iOS 6 and 5.1. The thing to notice here is that in 5.1 the apps have a large number of space between the rows as it isn’t supposed to run that resolution, but then look at iOS 6 and there is the same space as there is on the normal iPhone using 4 rows on 5.1 but has 5 rows of apps (Not including the dock).

If that isn’t proof that is the screen isn’t going to get larger I don’t really know what is. We will see soon.

New Apple Goodies Rumored for launch around September and November

This morning iMore gave us launch details for the iPhone and iPad mini launch and now iLounge gives us more information.

  1. Next iPhone will ship in Mid-September
  2. 2 new iPhone cases will be released. The first will like the current bumper case and another will have additional features which may come after launch.
  3. iPod Touch will be released alongside the new iPhone like in the past with the same screen resolution.
  4. New Nano could be bigger.
  5. 7.85 iPad Mini  with a new 19 pin dock connector and will ship in November just in time for the holidays. This follows many reports that Apple is working on Mini smart vases and Smart covers that resemble the current iPad screen size.
  6. Finally, Apple will be updating it’s new full sized iPad line with a thinner design less than a year after release. The New 4th gen iPad will be tweaked with a new back side mic and a less hot thinner design. Sharp’s rumored late IGZO displays would have made the iPad thinner and less thick and power hungry/hot.

“Apple’s current plan for the fourth-generation iPad is to release another relatively modest body tweak, which would keep the shape basically the same while introducing the new small Dock Connector, a rear-side microphone, and spec-improving/heat-reducing changes to the hardware inside. The rear-side mic might aid in noise cancellation or improve audio quality during rear video recording, and is apparently just like one found on the iPhone 5, between the camera and flash; prototype iPad minis apparently have a mic on the back in the same place.

However there has always been a rumor of a New iPad being launched with the New iPhone every year and it never happens. I would bet we wont see another full sized iPad until early 2013.

And finally iLounge says that all of this could happen at 1 event or could be multiple events.

The next iPad’s release date is a big question mark right now. As noted with the * above for the iPad mini, Apple could hold a special event just to announce the sub-8” tablet, and our source suggests that Apple might be ready to refresh the iPad at the same time.

I still would like to think the next iPad will be announced early 2013 keeping Apple’s yearly schedule but who knows maybe they will surprise us.

2005 “Purple” iPhone Design Emerge

There are a lot of early iPhone and iPad prototype images showing up on the internet as the Apple VS. Samsung trial kicks off today. Here we have an image of Apple’s “purple” iPhone design from sometime in 2005. The design has some of the elements of the iPhone 4 which Samsung is accusing Apple of taking from sony. The “purple” iPhone design has the label iPod on it like the other prototype designs.

Assembled Housing of New iPhone Video

Earlier today we got to see images of what is rumored to be Apple’s next iPhone design. It amazed me and others along the lines of the internet. So how could today get just a little better? Well a video of course! There is now a video of the housing put together for your viewing pleasure and here it is:

The next iPhone or the iPhone 5 is supposed to come with the same sort of form factor of the 4(s), an aluminum and glass back, 4 inch screen, new dock connector, new speakers, and a moved headphone jack to go along with the iPod models. However again these are all rumors and we cannot be sure if this is what Apple is going to announce, however if this is in fact the next iPhone then I will be very happy.

Rumored iPhone 5 parts get assembled: Is this the Next iPhone?

The new iPhone is coming sometime soon, and whenever it does the rumor mill just starts going crazy. Today iLab put all the rumored parts we have seen for the next iPhone together and got the image above. Honestly I like it a lot. I was hoping they would give it more curves like an iPhone 2G/3G but I am pretty happy with how it came out. It looks amazing, nothing how I pictured it would have been. However if this is actually what we are going to see announced is still unknown. Full gallery:

Happy 5th Birthday iPhone!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

5 years ago from this very time (8:00 PM) on this very day (June 29th) the first iPhone was launched and it was the most amazing thing I had ever seen. To me the design is still the best with the brushed aluminum on the back. It will always be to me the best looking iPhone there ever was. It was amazing. I remember I was only 11 at the time and my mother refused to get me one. only 2 models available the 4Gb for $600 with contract and an 8GB for $700 with contract. Just last year I was able to get my hands on the wonderful device I so craved back when I was 11 years old and yes I still love it. Here we are 5 years later and that iPhone is the base of a ton of what’s around us. I am sorry android users but your phone was based off of this. So for that I say happy birthday iPhone.
