Facebook iPad app to be announced at Apple iPhone Event?

Mashable is reporting that Facebook’s long awaited iPad app will be announced at Apple’s upcoming event which is rumored to be october 4th. Also Facebook is reportedly revamping the iPhone app to be faster and usable and a new HTML 5 version of the mobile site. The iPad app was leaked earlier this Summer with it being in the iPhone 3.4 app and then being blocked by Facebook itself. According from a former Facebook engineer Jeff Verkoeyen says the app is ready, and Facebook is waiting to release it. The companies don’t have the best history but launching a revamped iPhone and the iPad app alongside iOS 5 and the new iPhone’s seems logical. So what is the rumored stuff for October 4th? The Next iPhone(s),iOS 5, and if the reports are true a Facebook iPad App. October will be an exciting month!

Google+ Updates with Hangouts, Messenger, More [Apps]

Well after I reviewed Google+ for iPhone and the service basically in general they pushed an update to the iPhone app to reflect some changes on the site itself and some things that some people will be happy too. Here is the full change log!

  • Join hangouts from the mobile app
  • Huddle is now Messenger
  • Send photos in Messenger
  • +1 on comments
  • Reliability improvements in Messenger
  • Granular push notification settings
  • Map view in profile for places you’ve lived
  • improved +mention support
  • Share a post with individuals
  • Improved public search for people
  • Various bug and performance improvements

Now just to be clear you can only join hangouts you can not make one… At least not yet and you need an iPhone 4, an iPod touch 4, or an iPad 2 to join hangouts I’m sure because you need to use the front camera. The app seems to be stable which is more than I can say for the Facebook app.

Apple erasing iCloud backups September 22nd

Apple today has told it’s developers that starting September 22nd they will be be erasing developers iCloud backups meaning anything prior to September 22nd will be gone and during the erasing process you will not be able to back up or restore from iCloud or you will get an error.

On Thursday, September 22, the iCloud Backup data will be reset. Backing up to iCloud or restoring from an iCloud backup will be unavailable from 9 AM PDT – 5 PM PDT. If you attempt a backup or restore during this time, you will receive an alert that the backup or restore was not successful. After this reset, you will be unable to restore from any backup created priorto September 22. A full backup will happen automatically the next time your device backs up to iCloud.

So this most likely means the next iOS 5 update for developers will be the GM and the public release will be coming soon.

iMessage to be supported in MAC OS X Lions iChat?

Well here is something that might be unexpected to some but not me. Mac Rumors has found some hidden iChat code showing that iMessage a service that allows iPods, iPhones, and iPads to communicate over the web to the messages app will be coming to the Mac as well in the form of iChat.

@interface IMMessage : NSObject
{
IMHandle *_sender;
IMHandle *_subject;
NSAttributedString *_text;
NSString *_plainBody;
NSDate *_time;
NSDate *_timeDelivered;
NSDate *_timeRead;

The code you see above is the framework in iChat. The code shows the “time delivered” and “time read” which is in the current iMessage. Honestly I think this would be a great idea as you can have all your messages well now everywhere granted it isn’t an SMS and is an iMessage and well everyone I know uses an iPod, iPhone, iPad, or a Mac or all of those so this would be a great idea and I can’t wait to see it become a reality. It may even come with iOS 5 public release which is rumored to be October 10th. iMessage is still in developer preview and has not been released to the public but it does work very well for me.

iOS 5 beta 8 this Friday? GM seed September 23rd? Carrier approval by October 5th?

20110913-105836.jpg

BGR reports that a source has told them that this Friday won’t bring us GM seed of iOS 5 like we originally thought but in Friday we will have iOS 5 beta 8. Now the only time there has been 8 betas for iOS software was with iOS 2 or iPhone os 2 as it was called back then. Now I think iOS 5 beta 7 is stable and they should skip beta 8 and just fork over the GM seed but that could be just me. Here is the statement from BGR.

After beta 8, Apple will introduce a Gold Master build on or around September 23rd as has been rumored. We believe that build is what will be loaded onto the already-assembled iPhone 5 hardware currently waiting for final software in China.

Now this means the rest of the world could see iOS 5 on October 5th. Also could we see the iPhone 5 and iPod Touch 5 September 23rd? Apple usually gives the GM seed around the announcement of a new iPhone so it would make sense. Or could we have to wait till October 5th to see the newest and greatest Apple has to offer? Only time will tell.

Apple tells Developers to get ready for iCloud backup and Restore

Well it seems we might see iOS 5 coming in a matter of weeks and the GM maybe even next week. It seems that Apple has told developers to get ready for backup and restore for iCloud.

iCloud introduces a smarter way for users to back up their info. It’s important to read the new iCloud Data Storage Guidelines to ensure that your app works best with iCloud Backup and Restore, available on iOS 5.

The statement above was posted on the developer portal for new news. So this seems like Apple is giving developers information that iCloud and iOS 5 is very very close to being done and that Developers should make sure that their apps work the best they can with iOS 5 and iCloud.
