What I would like to see in iOS 6

WWDC is tomorrow morning for some and the afternoon for others. I am going to try and live blog the event tomorrow as best I can but before we go into all the rumors of what we are going to see I want to take some time and focus on the main thing I am excited about and that is iOS 6. A few days ago I said what I wanted to see from the jailbreak onto the actual operating system but this is going to be what I actually think is going to happen.

Revamped home screen

Let’s be honest the home screen of the iPhone is BORING! It has remained almost unchanged sense 2007. Actually I think the only thing that has changed is folders and being able to move apps around. I think it is time for widgets or themes. Not enough to kill the battery but maybe to see a new tweet, facebook, weather, news update, whatever. Or to customize your iOS device exactly how you want it. I think this is going to be a big thing for iOS 6.

Siri for iPad

I posted this a few days ago I posted a rumor from 9to5mac and I honestly think it will happen. It seems like a right move as the new iPad has dictation and just needs the functionality. One of the reasons I don’t think they released this with the new iPad is because it is still in beta for the iPhone and I don’t think they had how it would look done yet. I do think we will see this tomorrow.

Maps with find my friends built in

Apple’s own 3D maps are going to be in the native maps application instead of google’s which is almost confirmed now, however what I want to see is the option for find my friends to be built right into the application so maybe more people would start using it.

Better Widgets

I think one thing iOS needs is widgets. I said in the revamped home screen something to tweet or post to facebook and see what is happening around you. We have 2 widgets now Stocks and Maps and they are BORING. Come on Apple give us some widgets!

Missing Apps For iPad

When the iPad was released I had noticed there were some apps missing. Today the weather, stocks, and clock app are still missing from the iPad. All of these could be added with the addition of widgets in iOS or there could be an App that could combine them all into one. Have a 3-4 grid (add something) and have weather in a corner, stocks in a corner, etc.

Quick Reply

I said this in my jailbreak post that the only reason I keep going back to the altered world of iPhones is because I hate getting pulled out of my apps to answer texts. We have the best Mobile OS of any phone or tablet out there it is time to let us reply from in apps.

Better multitasking

I don’t like the way iOS handles multitasking. Well I don’t like the grid. I would like to see a view where you can see a little preview of what is going on in every app running. Sort of like webOS. Make it happen.

Apple to release iOS 6 Beta Build 10A5316K Tomorrow

A post from the staff of Chinese forum weiPhone.com claims to share a host of official download links to Apple’s new iOS 6 software that is going to be announced tomorrow.

Accuracy of this is not really known. Whenever you click a link you will get to the developer “Your Session has expired” like this.

When iOS 5 was close to being announced there was a similar list of links which I don’t have.

If the links are accurate then the 1st generation iPad and 3rd Generation iPod touch are dropped, however the iPhone 3Gs is still supported which to me makes no sense whatsoever as the iPhone 3Gs has worse specs than both of those devices. Here is the fill list of links:

Third-generation iPad
– Consumer: Wi-FiWi-Fi + Cellular (GSM)WiFi + Cellular (CDMA)
– Enterprise: Wi-FiWiFi + Cellular (GSM)WiFi + Cellular (CDMA)

iPad 2
– Consumer: Wi-FiWiFi + 3G (GSM)WiFi + 3G (CDMA)Revised Wi-Fi

iPhone

– Enterprise: 4S4 (GSM)4 (CDMA)3GS

iPod touch

Apple TV
– Consumer: 2nd Generation3rd Generation

Other iOS
– iOS 6 Beta Guide (PDF)
– Installing Apple TV Software (PDF)

Safari 6
– Consumer: – Safari 6 Developer Preview for LionUninstaller

There is no way to tell if these links are accurate until tomorrow morning. I expect there would also be a new build of OSX Mountain Lion or even the full public release date to be t0morrow. We will see. I will have some new posts coming for iOS and more of the event expectations later.

Jailbreak Features I Would Like to see in iOS 6

With absinthe being released and getting my jailbreak back with WWDC and iOS 6 around the corner I thought it would be cool to look at the features from Cydia that would make iOS 6 amazing! So let’s get started!

Messages+

This is how quick reply was meant to be. It is amazing. Just tap the banner and it will show up just like that. Also a gesture brings up the quick reply. It works flawlessly. I would love to see this in the next iOS.

Barrel

Barrel adds a variety of 3D page switching to your iPhone or iPad. I really like it! I would like to see some 3D page switching in the next iOS.

Expose Multitasking

One of the best things I have seen for jailbreaking my iPhone is for expose multitasking. Let’s face it the style the iPhone has now is old and isn’t as glamorous as Android. This is a way to see all of the apps running with a little snap shot of what is happening in the application instead of just the boring sort of icon layout they have now. I want to see this make it but if I had to chose I would want the quick reply for messages.

Next iPhone to use super oled display

Yes I realize I am super late with this story but hey better late than never. A report came out a few days ago that said worrying about your iPhone shattering whenever you drop it. The display is able to bend without cracking or anything, and it comes from samsung. One of Apple’s biggest display partners which has claimed to have a lot of orders from companies.

“We will be mass producing flexible OLED displays from the latter half of this year as the demand from our clients is significant,’’ said Kwon, who calls the shots in Samsung’s parts business.

“Apple is the iconic company in the industry that will continue to set the trends. If Samsung finds increasing industry demand for a futuristic product like flexible displays, it’s hard to imagine Apple doesn’t have something to do with it,’’ said an analyst from a U.S.-based investment bank.
Those were from samsung’s vice chairman Kwon Oh-Hyun and gave no names but we all know it is going to be the next iPhone. I know a lot of people that will be happy about this. Especially the 2 people in the picture above with cracked iPhone 4’s
Oh and a side note. I come from a high school and a very good friend of mine is working on a project for english class about Autism. She has made a great website on it and I think you should all check it out. Just as a little extra for all of you today! The link is also in the sidebar! Autism Awareness

Next iPhone to have a New Dock Connector?

20120514-074622.jpg

the part you see above could be from the much awaited next generation of iPhone. What is most important to note is the dock connector. It seems to have gotten a lot smaller than it has been in the past. However there is no telling if this part is actually legit. The component also has what I believe is a cellular antenna instead of a wifi antenna. Also noted there is a headphone jack all in a different organization than it used to be. However the most important is yes the dock.

The dock connected has been with us sense the early iPod years and this suggests Apple is probably ready to ditch it. If legit then all your old connectors won’t work… Unless apple is nice enough to give us an adaptor.

[Report] iPhone nano might be coming this Fall

Every year there is talk about Apple releasing a smaller iPhone or a lower cost. Ever sense the original in 2007. However these have never come to be with Apple keeping the older iPhone as the low end cheep model. However China times reports Apple could once again be working on a so called iPhone nano to compete with the top level Android phones with a smaller price point. The 3Gs is reportedly too pricey at $375 (I thought it was free) to compete with the newer android models. However the iPhone’s have always been the best sellers of all the major US carriers so I don’t see a need for this to happen. Even if the phone is older it is a good piece of equipment making me say this is just another rumor that will not see the light of day… For a while anyways

AT&T to begin unlocking off-contract iPhones Sunday

Today AT&T announced that starting Sunday will unlock off contract iPhones in response to complaints from Apple and iPhone users. This is great if you want to go to T-Mobile or are going to be leaving the country and don’t want to pay AT&T’s high international costs. Here is the official statement (via 9to5mac)

“Beginning Sunday, April 8, we will offer qualifying customers the ability to unlock their AT&T iPhones. The only requirements are that a customer’s account must be in good standing, their device cannot be associated with a current and active term commitment on an AT&T customer account, and they need to have fulfilled their contract term, upgraded under one of our upgrade policies or paid an early termination fee.”

So there you have it.

Angry Birds Space Review

Angry birds space was released last week and just like every other Angry Birds game it has risen to the top of the App store. However how great is the newest game? You might not like it just a fair warning.

Gameplay

The gameplay of this game is great. It is less challenging than the other Angry Birds games in my opinion. You have to deal with gravity fields and floating rocks in outer space to get through the levels. You even get some new birds that would have been more useful in the other games than this one. The gameplay is great but again sort of simple and the birds are basic modifications of the old birds.

The Good

The good thing is Angry Birds space will keep you entertained for a while anyways but I will get to that later. The levels are a little more challenging with the gravitational pull. I like the new birds for the space theme too.

The Bad

The thing that saddens me the most with this installment is that I see more bad than good with it. The birds are the same thing just with one variation of the yellow speed bird which is now a purple speed that has aim. The only new bird I can see is the ice bird turning blocks into ice so you can destroy them.

So much payed content. You payed for the game right? Wrong! You payed for maybe about half of the game. You get 2 sets of levels and then you need to pay extra for more sets of levels. Rivio do you really need the money cause I refuse to pay for more levels.

Conclusion

It seems Angry Birds has plummeted into a way just to make some more money for the company and the people who created it. I honestly don’t love it. It is too obsessed with getting you to spend more and more without offering anything new. It is fun for a couple of hours until you have to pay for the extra levels…. I don’t say it is a must have because it is the same as every other Angry Birds Game.

iPhone 5 Concept from Magic Mouse is Horrible

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Some people and their concepts. Today we have a concept you probably have already seen. This iPhone concept was made to be if Apple went with a Magic Mouse sort of design for the next iPhone. How would it look like?

The design has a glowing Apple Logo which would do it for some people. The design has some major flaws. If you would put it down you would have it wobble everywhere. The photo has the Phone face down on the screen but that’s awful. Imagine all the scratches the thing would get! I honestly think this is the worst design concept I have seen.

We will be seeing a new design this year as it goes with the Cycle. 2 Generation iPhones have the same design then after that we get a refresh! The iPhone 3Gs kept the iPhone 3Gs design and the 4s took the iPhone 4’s design.

The iPhone 5’s would have to be designed around the hardware. We have rumored 4G LTE, a 4 inch screen, a bigger battery, and maybe a new way of charging. All of that would have to make it into the design so Apple would make the phone look like something that could handle all of that. (Follow the iPhone 5 Rumors and Concepts)
